The University of Newcastle's NUbot's have placed second in the 2007 Robocup, the world championships for the four-legged robotic soccer league.

The reigning world champions put up an admirable fight to go down 1-5 against US team the Northern Bites, during the competition this week at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, USA.

At the competition, Dr Oliver Obst from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment took out the world championship in the 3D-Simulation Development Competition.

The NUbots were one of 24 teams to compete in the top level of the four-legged league of the Robocup, which involved teams from the USA, Germany, Turkey, China, Japan, Iran, Italy and Chile.

Having cruised into the final with a 10-nil win against Jolly Pochie from Japan in the quarter final, and a 3-1 victory against Wright Eagle from China in the semi-final, the NUbots conceded just 5 goals in the preliminary rounds.
