Epigenetics is concerned with heritable changes in gene expression not caused by alterations to the gene sequence.  The Epigenetics Group within the Cancer Research Program at the Garvan Institute is currently using models of prostate and breast cancer to study epigenetic modifications - including chemical modifications to DNA and histone proteins and change in microRNA expression and their role in disease.

The Signal Transduction Group within the Cancer Research program focuses on mechanisms of tyrosine kinase signal transduction and how these are altered in specific cancers.

The Bone & Mineral Research Program at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research is committed to finding treatments to reverse the major world-wide problem of osteoporotic fracture through identification of pathways to stimulate the formation of bone.
