ScienceAlert is proud to support Australian and New Zealand science writers and communicators and we accept well-written, interesting articles that speak to a general audience. Bearing in mind that our goal at ScienceAlert is to share the latest and most interesting scientific knowledge free of charge, we do not pay for publication. To help us achieve our aim features written for ScienceAlert may be re-published in other media outlets free of charge.

Although ScienceAlert loves to receive stories from a diverse range of sources, please note the following content selection criteria that keep our site covering only the best, most recent and real news from the world of Australian and New Zealand science:

ScienceAlert will only post features that are:

  • Well written and related to scientific fact
  • Of interest to a broad audience
  • Written in plain English which is understandable to a general audience
  • Contain at least one image 
  • Free from exaggeration, hype, or self-praise.

(Media editors: articles and accompanying images on our features page can be published free of charge in other publications. But please check the copyright information at the end of each article for directions. You may need to seek republishing permission from the original author or publisher. Extra images may also be available from the original publisher upon request.)

ScienceAlert will only post news releases that are:

  • Published by a reputable research organisation or scientist
  • Written in plain English which is understandable to a general audience
  • Free from exaggeration, hype, or self-praise.

  • Written by an expert in the appropriate field or a well-informed commentator
  • Well written and interesting
  • Related to scientific fact 
  • Written in plain English which is understandable to a general audience
  • Free from exaggeration, hype, or self-praise.

ScienceAlert will not post:

  • Articles without a reputable scientific source
  • Articles which are not in plain English
  • Announcements of successful grant applications with no current outcomes
  • Articles which announce intended discoveries or achievements not yet a reality
  • Organisational PR statements.
